I was wondering if any of the dermatologists out there could tell me about their career and how they got to where they are now. How many years of college it takes to be earning a good salary, at what age one would start earning that salary, and good schools to apply to for dermatology that arent too expensive. Also, what the diffrent kinds of dermatologists are and what they do specifically. Is it a challenging job? Would one be able to have a personal life outside of it? What courses to take in high school to prepare to become a dermatologist? I do not know much information on the subject, but i am very interested in dermatology so if anyone could give me some that would be greatly appreciated! Is being a dermatologist a job like being a surgeon where you spend a big amount of money on the education and training but you dont actually earn a large salary until your almost 30? would you recomend this career to someone who does not have a large amount of money to spend on an education?

In order for someone to become a dermatolgist you need 1) Bachelors degree 2) You need to then apply and graduate from medical school 3) Complete about 4 years of residency training in dermatology and then begin to practice (during those residency years, you will only make about $40,000 per year)….Dermatology is one of the most, i repeat, the most competitive medical fields out there…The reason for that is lifestyle…you work chilled hours from 9-5 and go home….no calls to answer at night, no need to stay in the hospital at night…So because of the competition, you will need to get excellent scores on your board exams….As far as money, yes, it can be very very expensive…but once you start making $200,000-300,000 per year, you will be able to pay off your loans….Most med school students have no problem getting loans b/c the creditors know that Dr’s will make alot of money and will be able to pay it off….It would be also a smart idea to go to state schools which cost much less than private schools…So the path of getting there is challenging, however, the job itself is not…You will see variety of patients, from acne patients to pts that need their moles removed…etc. etc. to pts that want laser treatments for their wrinkles to pts who have rash all over their bodies……You will definitely have ALOT of personal time if u choose to become a dermatologist….Oh yeah, being dermatologist is not like being a surgeon…….If you want more info go to check out their forums….
