Right now, I’m entering my senior year of high school. Ever since fourth grade, eight years ago, I’ve “known” that I wanted to be a band teacher when I grow up. It’s been my dream all along, and everything I’ve done has been music oriented. (Class selection, etc.)
Well, I was visiting my mom in the hospital today. The idea of being a nurse as a career came up. I learned that they make about twice as much money as band teachers, get to be selective with their hours, have much more job security, and don’t require the massive amounts of med school that doctors would need. All of this has me thinking that I might just want to bail out of my music dreams before they even get started.
Basically, anything that you could tell me about being a nurse would be appreciated. How much education would I need? How much technical/medical know-how do different nurses need? How much money do the different levels of nurses make? What are your experiences? What do you see the pros and cons as being?
I’ve made B’s in GT Biology, GT Chemistry, and Physics. As of right now, no science classes are on my schedule for next year. I could probably do better, but I’ve been practicing music three hours a day…
I’m a guy, if you think that makes a difference.
I’m going to look into being a shadow at a hospital for a week or two over the summer, but do you have any advice on anything else I can do?

I’m attending a state college right now, but I find that my education is turing out to be an endless route to a career that I’m not even sure will guarantee a steady pay to live off.
I was looking at information from a technical university (one of those colleges you usually see in the commercials on public TV during the week).
I’m actually quite intrigued and wondering if maybe there is a better path for me out there.
I looked at information on a degree in medical billing and coding.
I’m just wondering if these online univerisities offer valid, reliable degrees? Are they just as good as getting a degree from a on-campus state university?
And if any of you have already received your degree in such a way, are you satisfied and have you found it easy to find a career?
I think talking to someone who has actually found success this route would sway me better than talking to an advisor trying to pull me into their online school.
ANY info is appreciated. Thank you!

I’m plan on attending a technical college, locally here in Louisville. But, I have a dilemma. My parnets have bad credit, so they can’t co-sign a loan for me I mean they would, but would be inevitably declined. I can’t help that my parents have bad credit. The good part is that I work for UPS, and they cover up to nine grand of my tuition, which brings the total to thirty-one Grand. I have always wanted to attend this school. I’m seeking a career in Network Security. I’m 19 years old, so, I can’t take a loan out by myself. If there isn’t any other way, I will ask my grandma or aunt, to co-sign for me. It isn’t fair that my parents are holding my education back, just because they had hard times. What can i do?

I hold a diploma in Banking and Financial Service. I have no interest in the financial section. Ok, I knew I have chosen the wrong course and wasted time and money. I have been doing all sort of admin job for the past 7 years and I hate admin jobs. (Ironic eh?) But there’s nothing else I can do. I am thinking of starting all over again by going back to school for a dip in IT. Do you think this is a good idea? I prefer technical stuff than interacting with people. I am also worry how should I explain my career switch at interviews in the future and should I include my past working history and education (banking and finance) in my resume? If I don’t, then how do I explain the vacant period? I need some real good advice.

Okay I am going into 11th grade. I am going to a technical school for Allied Health/Sports Medicine. As long as I could remember I wanted to be a nurse and nothing else. Now that i am getting older I am still really interested in nursing but I found some other fields that I think I would like. For example Physical Therapy. And I am also interested in Early Childhood Education. But i would have to say that i am more intersted in the medical field more than anything. I was wondering if you are in any of these careers could you help me out with what schools are good for those and what classes you took. How long you were in school for. what you love about it. How you decided to go into that field of work. Thank you so much for all of your help. you don’t know how much i appricate this. By the way I am interested into going to college in Pennsylvania, Montana, South Carolina, and Washington.

I have over 10 years of experience in the IT industry (NOT programming like everyone automatically assumes; technical services) and just got my MBA and PMP cert last year. 8 years as a colleague at a huge reputable company w/ good experience and references. Despite all this, I can’t get a new job or even any interviews despite trying. I’ve tried: the job boards (Dice etc), my network (asking friends family current and former colleagues), trying to find recruiters/headhunters, hitting company job boards directly, even my college’s alumni career site. Nothing. All I get once in a while are crappy offers for temporary consulting gigs, usually in different states.
I thought given my experience, education, certs, the industry (IT) I wouldn’t have a hard time at least getting interviews, but nothing. Yes the Tech Services side of IT isn’t as hot as other areas but still. My resume is fine too. What is going on? I am getting fed up, been at this for months.
