Hi there, i just turned 32. The only education i have had is having become a highschool graduate. My question is, i want a better career. Is it too late to start training? I feel like i should have done all this in the past then i’d be so set right now but my attitiude towrds school back then was that i disliked it and had no interest as well as no clue as to what path i wanted to take. Fastforward to today. Now i’m interested and want to BE someone and earn more money and respect. But i STILL have no clue as to what i want. I think this stems from the fact that i suffer from low self esteem and am not sure who i am. I always feel so disconnected from myself, literally. I am thinking about going to school to become a massage therapist or maybe becoming a social worker because i like the idea of helping people but at the same time i am afraid of people.
I’m SO confused and lost as to what career i want? Help?

Take stock of your life so far. Write down what you CAN DO, your skills, talent, knowledge, life/work experience, qualifications, etc. It is never too late to learns and earn to help boost your confidence and self esteem, etc. Start at the bottom to prove your productivity, performance, achievements to move up the ladder. Email tyneham when you need further advice/tips.

I’m almost 50 and just finishing my AA degree in social sciences. It was also hard for me to settle on what I really wanted to do, but I have finally decided to be a patient advocate, which will require a degree in sociology. I’ll be minoring in gerontology and “ethics of aging,” and then earning a second degree in Nursing Home Administration.
Now, all that said — what should YOU be looking at?
32 is not too old to begin something completely different, and your attitude toward education now will make a big difference in how you do in college. I started with basic courses that played to my strengths — writing and research — to develop a sense of accomplishment and keep my GPA up. Then I tackled the math, and finally the science, gaining momentum as I went. You will, too.
As far as deciding the exact course you want to take: gather some trusted freinds and family and tell them what you’re feeling. They each know a part of you and can tell you what they perceive as your strong points and gifts. Then, just start.
Begin. You will meet new people who are also traveling a new path — their excitement will help encourage and support you. Build as you go. Change course as you need to.
Good luck! You CAN do this!!
