Why do people make scapegoats of certain cultures in the U.S?

career education training

The U.S. is a country of immigrants and certain cultures fostered a belief in education and working hard to give opportunity to their children to succeed further. In one generation many cultures succeed at climbing the Career/Money/Education train… yet others have been present for 100 years and can’t seem to get out of the rut they live in. Poverty, non-education, welfare, and constant blaming of others for their own failure to rise above.

What do you think about this?

I think that many people are resistant to change. They hold preconceived ideas about certain groups often based on stories people tell them and media perpetuations. It’s pretty hard to shake an idea that you grew up believing in for the first 30 or 40 years of your life. You always believed that this group was this way so why should you stop believing it now? Especially since people that blame problems on certain groups are not likely to spend much time getting to know members of these groups. At least, not if they can help it.

Well, the USA is not a nation of immigrants, as most Americans were born here. About your point, yes there is one culture that is unproductive in helping most of its members advance in our country, but if you name that group, you will get a violation notice. Look at the pathetic 50% graduation rate of the students from that culture and compare it with the other USA cultures.

Your question and your further information contradict each other. Do you believe that these people are being blamed for their failure in our society unfairly, or are they themselves mostly responsible for their failure to thrive?

I do believe that it is their culture that holds them back, rather than poverty or racism.
